Problem
I led a video production for a leading pharma featuring two HCPs discussing squamous cell carcinoma treatment. The challenge was that both doctors needed to appear on-screen together, but just days before our scheduled Boston shoot, one doctor had to cancel due to a scheduling conflict. With a tight client deadline looming, the team was concerned we’d have to postpone the entire project.
Execution
I assured the team we could solve this creatively and proposed filming each doctor separately against green screen in their respective cities – Boston and NYC – then combining them in post-production. To execute this properly, I traveled to both locations to direct the shoots myself, using a stand-in to read the absent doctor’s lines and ensure proper eye contact for the on-screen interaction.
Results and Impact
The team was initially skeptical, but I walked them through the technical approach and timeline to build their confidence. The solution worked perfectly – we delivered on time, the client was thrilled with the seamless final product, and the team gained confidence in tackling complex production challenges.
